Home batteries abroad: what applies
Registration, grid rules, VAT and take-back differ per country. Here is what you should know before you order from abroad.
We ship Marstek home batteries by pallet to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, and on quotation elsewhere in the EU. Registration with your grid operator and compliance with local wiring rules are your responsibility; checkout applies the standard VAT rate of your country — compare the final price with a local offer.
A battery bought abroad is not a bad idea, but it is not a casual purchase either. Here is what applies, and where our offer has its limits.
The four points that matter
1. Registration
Grid operator and, in several countries, a national register. Plug-in batteries have simplified but country-specific rules.
2. Grid connection rules
Germany VDE-AR-N 4105, Belgium Synergrid C10/26, France NF C 15-100. Check the model’s declaration of conformity.
3. VAT
The standard VAT rate of your country at our checkout; some countries apply a lower rate to residential solar storage. We say it before rather than after.
4. Take-back
Registrations with national schemes in Germany and Belgium are being arranged; appliances bought from us are taken back on request.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to register a home battery?
In most EU countries a stationary battery connected to a solar installation must be registered with the grid operator, and several countries keep a national register (Germany: Marktstammdatenregister; Belgium: Fluvius/ORES; France: Enedis). Plug-in batteries fall under simplified rules that differ per country. Check with your grid operator and a local electrician before you order.
Is the Marstek Venus E approved in my country?
In Belgium it is on the Synergrid C10/26 list since 8 August 2025. For Germany the grid connection follows VDE-AR-N 4105; check the manufacturer’s declaration of conformity for your model. For other countries, ask your grid operator.
Which VAT do I pay on a home battery?
We ship from the Netherlands and charge the standard VAT rate of your country at checkout. Some countries apply reduced or zero VAT to residential solar storage (Germany, for example). Compare the final price with a local offer — we would rather you compare fairly.
Who takes the battery back at end of life?
Batteries and electrical equipment fall under extended producer responsibility in every EU country. Our registrations with the national schemes in Germany and Belgium are being arranged; until then we take back appliances bought from us on request.
