Choosing a portable air conditioner
Cooling capacity. A portable unit of about 2.6 kW (9,000–10,000 BTU), such as the AIRA 10, Compact 10 or KLIMI 10 HP, suits a room of roughly 30–35 m². For an attic under a flat roof or a large living room, a fixed split system is more powerful and quieter.
Cooling and heating. The KLIMI 10 HP NW has a heat pump: it cools with 2.6 kW and heats with 2.0 kW, uses the natural refrigerant R290 and can be controlled over Wi-Fi with the app.
Air conditioner or air cooler? The PELER models are evaporative air coolers: no hose and low power use, but less cooling capacity than an air conditioner.
Shipping €12.95 to Austria, Denmark, Italy, Spain and Sweden, €16.95 to other EU countries; usually 3–7 days.
Frequently asked questions
How large a room can a portable air conditioner cool?
A portable air conditioner of about 2.6 kW cools a room of up to roughly 30–35 m². With a lot of sun or under a flat roof the limit is lower.
Does a portable air conditioner need to vent outside?
Yes. The warm air leaves through the exhaust hose, usually through a window left ajar with a window seal kit. An evaporative air cooler such as the PELER does not need a hose.
Can a portable air conditioner also heat?
Models with a heat pump can. The Olimpia Splendid KLIMI 10 HP NW cools with 2.6 kW and heats with 2.0 kW.
What is the difference between a portable air conditioner and an air cooler?
An air conditioner cools with a refrigerant and removes heat through a hose. An air cooler cools by evaporating water: more economical and hose-free, but less powerful.
