Which electric heater suits your room?
Electric heaters give the same heat per kWh, but differ greatly in warm-up time, noise and comfort. Choose by use: a quick boost or hours of heating.
| Type | Heat | Warm-up time | Noise | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fan heater | warm air, 1,800–2,400 W | < 1 minute | fan audible | quick boost, bathroom (IP21), hobby room |
| Ceramic heater | warm air, 1,500–2,000 W | < 1 minute | quieter than a coil | bedroom, office, does not burn dust |
| Bathroom/wall heater | warm air, 2,000 W | 2–5 minutes | fan audible | wall-mounted in the bathroom, floor stays clear, WiFi models |
| Infrared heater | radiant heat, 800–1,200 W | felt immediately | silent | workplace, garage, covered patio |
| Convector | convection, 2,000 W | 10–15 minutes | silent | main heating for a living room or bedroom up to 70 m³, WiFi model |
| Oil-filled radiator | stored heat, 2,000–2,500 W | 15–20 minutes | silent | hours of heating, children's room, night-time |
Frequently asked questions
How many watts do I need for my room?
With normal insulation, allow 30 to 40 W per m³. A room of 4 × 5 metres with a 2.6 m ceiling is 52 m³ and needs 1,500 to 2,000 W as main heating. As supplementary heating, half is enough. In older, poorly insulated rooms allow 50 W per m³.
How much electricity does an electric heater use per hour?
A 2,000 W heater uses 2 kWh per hour at full power; the cost depends on your electricity price per kWh. The thermostat switches the heater off once the room is warm, so actual consumption is often 40 to 60% lower. An 800 W infrared heater uses 0.8 kWh per hour.
Which heater is suitable for the bathroom?
Choose a model rated at least IP21 (protection against dripping water) and install it outside the zones directly next to the bath or shower. Suitable models are the Caldo Pop, Caldo Relax, Caldo Cubic and the wall heaters Caldo Duo, Caldo Up T and Caldo Sky. Our first choice is the Caldo Sky WiFi (IP22, weekly programme, app).
What is the difference between infrared and a convector?
An infrared heater warms people and objects directly by radiation: you feel the heat immediately, even in a cold or draughty room. A convector heats the air and so the whole room evenly; this takes longer but gives an even temperature. Infrared for a workplace or patio, convector for the living room.
Can I control an electric heater via WiFi?
Yes. The Caleo Glass WiFi (convector) and the Caldo Sky WiFi (bathroom heater, in blue or green) work with the Olimpia Splendid app: weekly schedule, temperature setting and remote pre-heating.
Can an electric heater stay on all night?
Oil-filled radiators and convectors with a safety thermostat are made for this: no exposed heating element, silent and with tip-over protection. Fan heaters are intended for short-term use. Always keep 50 cm clear and never cover the heater.
How quickly will my order be delivered?
In-stock items ordered before 2 pm are dispatched the same working day. Delivery usually takes 3–5 working days; shipping costs € 17.95 (AT, DK, IT, ES, SE) or € 24.95 to other EU countries.
Electric heating without central heating
An electric heater is the quickest way to warm a single room: no pipes, no installer, no maintenance. Olimpia Splendid from Italy has been making climate appliances for more than 65 years, combining design with safety features such as a double thermostat, tip-over protection and splash protection.
How to choose
- Short peaks (bathroom, mornings in the office): fan heater or ceramic heater.
- Keep the floor clear: wall heater Caldo Duo, Caldo Up T or Caldo Sky WiFi (bathroom, IP22, app).
- Heat you feel immediately in draughty or large rooms: infrared heater Quarzia, Solaria or Carbon Twist.
- Hours of silent heating: convector Caleo Glass WiFi (glass front, app) or Caleo 2 Turbo Timer, or a Caldorad oil-filled radiator.
