Does an Intergas boiler have a three-way valve? No, and this is what it has instead

Part of the guide Troubleshooting a boiler fault

Short answer: no. The Intergas Kombi Kompakt HRE does not have a three-way valve. Heating water and tap water flow through a single patented two-in-one heat exchanger, so the boiler switches between heating and hot water without a valve. If you are looking for a "three-way valve for your Intergas", the problem usually lies in a different part.

Why an Intergas HRE has no three-way valve

In most combi boilers, a three-way valve sends the hot water either to the radiators or to a separate domestic hot water heat exchanger. Intergas chose a different design: in the heat exchanger of the Kombi Kompakt HRE, the heating circuit and the hot water circuit run together through one block, separated by a double wall. As a result, no diverter valve is needed, which removes a part that is a well-known source of faults in other brands.

This applies to the well-known HRE versions such as the 24/18, 28/24 and 36/30. If you have a different Intergas model, check the parts list for your appliance on Intergas parts by appliance; daar staat precies welke onderdelen erin zitten.

Hot water or heating not working properly: where is the problem?

Because there is no three-way valve, on an Intergas HRE you look at the parts that are fitted. Which part it is will be determined by an installer; the boiler often shows a code itself. The meaning of each code is listed under the Intergas fault codes.

  • Heat exchanger: the heart of the boiler, for both heating and hot water. Limescale or dirt causes less hot water or noise. See Intergas heat exchangers.
  • Pump: no circulation, no heat. See Intergas pumps.
  • Temperature sensors (NTC): measure flow, return and hot water; a faulty sensor gives incorrect temperatures or a fault code. See Intergas temperature sensors.
  • Servicing: many complaints disappear after a service. See Intergas service kits.

Instalpunt supplies genuine parts, with the part number and the appliances they fit. We do not check whether a part fits your appliance; if in doubt, ask Intergas or your installer.

And if you really are looking for a three-way valve?

If you have a boiler from another brand, or are looking for a three-way valve for a different application, you will find them under three-way valves of all brands. Not sure which Intergas you have? Read Intergas Xtreme or Kombi Kompakt HRE.

Frequently asked questions

Does an Intergas boiler have a three-way valve?

The Intergas Kombi Kompakt HRE does not. Heating water and tap water pass through a single two-in-one heat exchanger, so the boiler needs no valve to switch between heating and hot water.

Mijn Intergas geeft geen warm water meer, welk onderdeel is stuk?

An installer will determine that. Often it is dirt or limescale in the heat exchanger, a temperature sensor or the pump. Also check the fault code on the display; its meaning is listed under the Intergas fault codes.

Where can I buy parts for an Intergas HRE?

At Instalpunt you can order genuine Intergas parts online, per appliance with an exploded view and part number. We ship to EU countries from €9.95 (€12.95 for more distant countries); delivery usually takes 3–5 working days. Free delivery from €199.
