Part of the guide Troubleshooting a boiler fault
Short answer: the rating plate is a sticker showing the brand, the exact type (for example "Kombi Kompakt HRE 28/24" or "Tzerra Ace 28c"), the serial number, the year of manufacture and the approval marks. On Intergas and Remeha boilers it is on the underside of the boiler, on Nefit Bosch behind the flap at the front or on the side, on Vaillant at the bottom or behind the front panel, on ATAG on the underside. For a part we need the full type and preferably the serial number; within one model name there are versions with different pumps, PCBs and sensors. Take one sharp photo of the whole plate, without opening the casing.
Where the rating plate is
| Brand | Location | What the type looks like | Extra number that helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intergas | Sticker on the underside of the boiler, next to the connections; on the Xtreme also inside the flap | Kombi Kompakt HR 22/28, HRE 28/24, HReco 36/30, Xtreme 30 or 36, Prestige CW6 | Serial number (starts with the year of manufacture), article code 0xxxxx |
| Remeha | Sticker on the underside or on the side; on Ace models it can also be read via Menu, Information | Avanta Ace 28c, Tzerra Ace 28c or 39c, Calenta Ace 28c or 40c; older: Avanta 28c, Tzerra 28c, Calenta 25s or 40c | Serial number and the code with barcode; "c" is combi, "s" is system/heat-only |
| Nefit Bosch | Behind the control flap at the front, or at the bottom of the right-hand side | ProLine NxT HRC 24 or 30, TrendLine II HRC 25 or 30, TopLine HR 70, EcomLine HR Excellent | FD number (production code) and the long serial number; both are on the plate |
| Vaillant | At the bottom of the boiler or behind the front panel, on the left; sometimes also a second sticker inside | ecoTEC plus VHR 25-30/5-5, ecoTEC pro VHR 24-28/5-3, ecoTEC exclusive | The 28-digit serial number; it contains the production year and the version |
| ATAG | Sticker on the underside, by the connections | A244EC, A325EC, i28EC, Q38C, E325EC | Serial number and the production date |
| AWB, Ferroli, Itho Daalderop, Bosch | Underside or inside the flap | Thermomaster 3HR 28, BlueHelix Pro 32C, Cube One | Serial number |
On a heat pump the plate is on the indoor unit and on the outdoor unit (two different types), on an MVHR (heat recovery ventilation) or ventilation unit behind the front panel or on the side, on a hot water cylinder on the casing next to the connections.
What the numbers mean
- Type or model: the commercial name plus the output. On Intergas boilers the two numbers give the heating output and the hot water output in kW (28/24). On Remeha and Nefit the number is the maximum output (28c, HRC 30). This number determines which parts fit.
- Serial number: unique to each appliance; for many brands it contains the year of manufacture (Intergas starts with the year, Remeha and Vaillant encode it in the long number). The serial number is needed for warranty claims and for parts that differ by year of manufacture, such as PCBs.
- Article or product code: the manufacturer's order code for the complete appliance. Useful if the model name stayed the same over the years but the version changed.
- CW class: the Gaskeur label for hot water comfort, CW3 to CW6. See which CW class suits you.
- Gaskeur HR107, SV, NZ: efficiency class, cleaner combustion, post-heating for a solar water heater. Of interest to the installer, not for ordering parts.
- Gas type and pressure: G25 or G20 and 20 or 25 mbar. Relevant to the gas valve; a part for G20 (H-gas) is not always the same as one for G25 (L-gas, formerly the standard natural gas in the Netherlands).
- Electrical: 230 V, 50 Hz and the power consumption; only relevant for pumps and PCBs.
Why the model name alone is not enough
A Nefit TopLine comes as HR 70, HR 100 and Compact, each with a different hydro block; a Tzerra comes as 28c and 39c with different burners and service kits; an Intergas HRE 28/24 has had three generations of PCBs over the years. The serial number or the year of manufacture then determines which part fits. On our product pages, "Suitable for" shows which types a part fits; in the spare parts catalogue you search by brand and appliance, so you only see the parts that fit. How to get from the rating plate to the right part number is explained in How to find the right part.
Which photo we need
- The complete rating plate, straight on, sharp, with flash if it is dark under the boiler. Brand, type, serial number and barcode must be legible.
- The old part, if you already have it: front and connection side, and a close-up of every number or sticker on it.
- The spot where the part sits, only if it is visible without opening the casing.
Send the photos by WhatsApp or email to our customer service. We will look up the part, check whether it fits your version and tell you whether it is a stock item or a special-order item. The latter is important: special-order items cannot be returned.
Rating plate illegible or missing?
The boiler display often gives away the type: Remeha Ace under Menu, Information; Nefit Bosch via the service menu (installer); Intergas Xtreme in the menu. The installation manual or the warranty certificate states the type and often the serial number. So does the installer's sales invoice. And the boiler itself: the shape of the casing, the display and the colour of the flap let us recognise the brand and series; in that case send a photo of the whole boiler and of the connections at the bottom.
Frequently asked questions
Waar zie ik hoe oud mijn ketel is?
On Intergas the serial number starts with the year of manufacture. On Remeha and Vaillant the year is encoded in the serial number; on Nefit Bosch the FD code refers to the production date. If in doubt, send us the serial number; we will read it for you.
Is the serial number the same as the article number?
No. The serial number is unique to each appliance; the article number or product code is the order code of the model and is the same for all appliances of that type. Parts in turn have their own manufacturer number.
My boiler has two rating plates with different numbers. Which is the right one?
Both are right: one is usually the appliance type with approval marks, the other the factory identification with serial number. Photograph both.
Is the CW class always on the rating plate?
On boilers from about 2005 onwards, yes, as the Gaskeur CW label. On older boilers you can derive it from the hot water output: 24 kW corresponds to CW4, 30 kW to CW5.
