Marstek Venus E 3.0 or 4.0: differences, price and which to choose

Part of the guide Home battery, EV charger and electric heating

Marstek Venus E 3.0 or 4.0: differences, price and which to choose

Short answer: the Marstek Venus E 3.0 and the Venus E 4.0 both have 5.12 kWh of storage. According to Marstek, the 4.0 gets more power (3 kW charging and discharging) and backup power that switches over within 10 milliseconds, but it is not yet available: at Instalpunt it is on pre-sale for € 1,699 with delivery from 15 November 2026. The Venus E 3.0 costs € 1,098 incl. P1 meter and is in stock; shipping to EU countries is from €9.95 (€12.95 for more distant countries), usually 3–5 working days. Free delivery from €199. If you want to start saving this winter, the 3.0 is the logical choice; the 4.0 is for those who really want the highest power in the 5 kWh format and can wait.

The differences in one table

The figures for the Venus E 3.0 come from Marstek's official datasheet and manual; the figures for the 4.0 are the specifications published in advance by Marstek. As soon as the 4.0 is delivered, we will check them against the actual unit.

The price difference is € 500. For that, the 4.0 gives you about 20 per cent more power and faster backup switchover, but no extra storage. And because savings with a home battery depend mainly on how many kilowatt-hours you can shift per day, capacity is the figure that counts most. That is the same.

What the difference in power means in practice

A home battery on an ordinary socket is limited to a maximum of 800 W output or input, because the circuit is shared with other appliances. That applies to the 3.0 and to the 4.0. You only get the full power of 2,500 W (3.0) or 3 kW (4.0) on a dedicated 16 A circuit in the consumer unit. If you do not have one, both models perform the same in everyday use: 800 W, enough for the fridge, lighting, television and everything on standby in the evening.

Backup power: 2.5 kW or 3 kW with fast switchover

Both models have a backup power connection for a single appliance or an extension lead, not backup power for the whole house. On the 3.0 that is 2.5 kW via the backup socket. The 4.0 promises 3 kW and a switchover time of less than 10 milliseconds, so connected equipment does not notice a brief power cut. If backup power is a side issue for you, this point hardly matters. If something critical runs on that output, such as a server, aquarium or medical equipment, the fast switchover of the 4.0 is a real argument.

When should you choose the Venus E 3.0?

  • You want to save now. The 3.0 is in stock and ships to EU countries from €9.95 (€12.95 for more distant countries), usually within 3–5 working days. Free delivery from €199. Every month a battery is running, you shift electricity from expensive to cheap hours.
  • You do not have a dedicated circuit and do not plan to get one. Then both models run at 800 W and with the 4.0 you pay € 500 for power you do not use.
  • You want a proven model. The 3.0 is the current generation, with a well-known manual, a comprehensive troubleshooting guide and sets of 2 and 3 units that we supply every day.
  • You want certainty about what is in the box. P1-meter CT003, wandbeugel, 10 jaar garantie: allemaal bevestigd.

When should you wait for the Venus E 4.0?

  • You have (or will get) a dedicated circuit and want the highest power in the 5 kWh format, for example for an induction hob or a heat pump that peaks in the evening.
  • Fast backup power is important to you and you have an appliance that must not notice any interruption.
  • You can wait until mid-November and do not mind paying now for a product that comes later. Bear in mind that, as a consumer, you also have a 14-day cooling-off period after receipt with a pre-sale.

Torn between a bigger battery and more power? The Venus E Max combines 10 kWh with 3.6 kW and backup power, and can currently only be ordered via our free reservation list. Whether 5 kWh is enough for your household, you can work out in how many kWh of home battery do I need.

Pairing, app and P1 meter: the same for both

The 3.0 and the 4.0 both work with the Marstek app and are controlled on the basis of readings from a P1 meter on your smart meter. With the 3.0, the P1 meter CT003 is in the box. How the pairing works and what to do if the meter will not connect is explained in the guide to the Marstek P1 meter. If you already have a HomeWizard on the P1 port, see Marstek and HomeWizard. Check with your grid operator whether you need to register a home battery; the rules differ per country and apply to every model.

Our advice

For nine out of ten households, the Venus E 3.0 is the sensible buy today: the same capacity, € 600 cheaper, available immediately and with a 10-year warranty that is confirmed (incl. P1 meter). The 4.0 is interesting for those who have a dedicated circuit and will really use the last bit of power or the fast backup power. If you still want to reserve the 4.0, order it via the pre-sale page; we deliver from 15 November 2026. All models, prices and frequently asked questions can be found at Buying a Marstek home battery from Instalpunt. More background on the naming (V3, 3.0, Venus E) can be found at marstek.group.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Venus E 4.0 bigger than the 3.0?

No. Both have 5.12 kWh of storage. The difference lies in the power (3 kW versus 2,500 W on a dedicated circuit) and in the faster backup switchover of the 4.0.

What does the Marstek Venus E 4.0 cost and when will it be delivered?

At Instalpunt the Venus E 4.0 costs € 1,699 including VAT on pre-sale. Delivery is from 15 November 2026. The Venus E 3.0 costs € 1,098 and is in stock. Shipping to EU countries is from €9.95 (€12.95 for more distant countries). Free delivery from €199.

Can I later put a Venus E 4.0 next to my Venus E 3.0?

Marstek controls different Venus versions together in the app; the 3.0, for example, works together with older V1 and V2 batteries. Whether and how the 4.0 works with the 3.0, we will confirm as soon as the unit has been delivered. If you want to expand now, choose two or three Venus E 3.0s.

Do I need a dedicated circuit for the Venus E 4.0?

It is not compulsory. On an ordinary socket it is, like the 3.0, limited to 800 W. You only get the full 3 kW on a dedicated 16 A circuit installed by an electrician.

Does the Venus E 4.0 also come with a P1 meter?

That has not yet been confirmed. The Venus E 3.0 comes with the CT003 P1 meter in the box as standard. What will be supplied with the 4.0, we will put on the product page as soon as Marstek starts shipping.

What if I order the 4.0 and then want the 3.0 after all?

Email us before delivery at info@instalpunt.nl with your order number; we will then look at the options together with you. After receipt, as a consumer you also have a 14-day cooling-off period.
